The University Hospital Antwerp (UZA) has implemented a custom solution for the Forensic Medicine department using Oracle APEX, guided by Contribute. This innovative solution replaces the use of local tools such as Access, Excel, and Word, enabling standardized data processing.
Guy Lodewijks, ICT Manager at UZA, emphasizes the importance of this step: “We observed the need for structured, standardized, and automated data processing increasing, leading to a greater administrative burden on our healthcare providers. Administrative work was on the rise within their responsibilities, and we wanted to support them so they could focus more on their core activities.”
The Forensic Medicine department previously used Access, Excel, and Word to store information that did not fit into the electronic patient record. This ad-hoc approach posed security risks. The ICT department was approached to find a new solution.
UZA chose Oracle APEX due to its existing Oracle Database infrastructure. Contribute, specialized in Oracle, guided the development process. Oracle APEX is a low-code environment that enables cost-effective custom solutions.
The new application, known as Obelix, completely replaces the old documents and offers standardized steps for data processing. Guy Lodewijks is satisfied with the collaboration: “The application performs well, and we are working on further optimizations.”
Both forensic doctors and administrative staff use Obelix, both on-site and via Citrix for secure remote work. Contribute ensured up-to-date security and backup, allowing the Forensic Medicine department to work more efficiently and securely.
